To access digital materials from the Digital Media Catalog, you will need:

• A valid Heartland Library Cooperative library card
• Access to the Internet
• Free software for the computer and/or device on which you wish to use the material you download from this site

If you need help, here’s a quick guided tour created by OverDrive, the company that provides downloadable service for us and many other libraries. The guide walks you through the basics, from getting started to downloading to burning to a CD. In just a few minutes, even the newest user can be enjoying a downloaded title.

As the guide is not library specific, there are a few things in it which do not apply:

• You may have a maximum of 6 titles checked out from the Digital Library.
• Downloaded titles are checked out for 7 days and are automatically returned to the library.
• We do not currently offer movie downloads (we may offer this in the future).

Overdrive has compiled a list of known compatible devices that work with the service. Their is also a list of known incompatible devices. As there are a number of popular devices that are incompatible with this service, an alternative source of public-domain works that are generally compatible with all players is LibriVox.

Note: Digital Downloads can be enjoyed at home, at work, or when you travel, but are generally not for use on the computers in your library.
