Mary Fears
Okeechobee County Library is excited to welcome Mary Fears, Professional Storyteller, Civil War Re-enactor, Genealogist, Author, and retired School Librarian on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at 3 p.m.
Mary Fears will tell stories of Plantation Life, Slave Occupations and Narratives, and Biographical Stories with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions. Mrs. Fears has been a Professional Storyteller for over thirty years and is committed to sharing African American history and stories to all ages.
This program is provided by the Florida Humanities Council and is free and open to the public. The Okeechobee Friends of the Library will provide light refreshments.

The Bricks are Back!!!
Once again, the Okeechobee County Public Library is offering Memorial Bricks for sale to be permanently placed in the Library entryway. Whether you want to honor a loved one or commemorate special occasions such as births, graduations, weddings, and more, purchasing a Memorial Brick provides a unique opportunity to leave a lasting symbol of your support for the Okeechobee County Public Library.Two brick sizes are available: 4x8 inch bricks are $50.00 and 8x8 inch bricks are $250.00. The smaller bricks contain three lines of text and the larger bricks contain six lines of text.

Historic Landscapes of Florida
Friday, February 13th, 2009 at 7 p.m.

Joanna Lombard, Florida author and Landscape Architect and Professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture will discuss some of the 27 historic Florida landscapes from her book, "The Historic Landscapes of Florida." The landscapes from her book have been described by Virginia Allain as "vivid mosaics of our cultural heritage; they remind us of where we have been and help to create of sense of place." Ms. Lombard is currently studying the effects of the design of neighborhoods on the well being of children and the elderly.
